Material Handling and safety is usually the last thing on people€™s minds when they are working on a timetable, but the fact of the matter is, material handling harbors a tremendous amount of risk and safety measures need to be enforced. Facilities move materials every day from one location to another, using people, hand trucks or dollies, pallet jacks or forklifts, and truck or heavy machinery. Handling materials while using this equipment presents ergonomic problems, broken bones, material falling, and hazards with forklifts or heavy machinery. Thousands are hospitalized each year because of occupational injuries associated with material handling. Our "Materials Handling Safety" training programs provide the fundamental information employees need to work safely. Topics covered in these products include: Types of potential hazards, Planning a job, Selecting and using the appropriate personal protection equipment (PPE), Proper lifting and moving techniques, ergonomic considerations, Hand trucks, carts and pallet trucks, Mechanical lifting devices, and more.

OSHA's Position On Materials Handling Safety Training
When we are subject to the pressures inherent within the workplace, it can be quite easy to neglect proper Material Handling and safety. That’s because we may be in a hurry to use materials without considering how to get them to their destinations in the safest manner possible. As a result, material handling can pose an extreme hazard that may ultimately result in; ergonomic injuries, broken bones, injuries and even fatalities from fallen materials along with accidents involving forklifts and heavy machinery, not to mention the expense of damaged equipment and products. These are the reasons that OSHA has set down mandatory regulations regarding the various ways that materials are transported (OSHA 1910.176). These transportation methods can include; hand trucks, dollies, pallet jacks, forklifts and co-workers. The topics that are covered in our comprehensive materials handling videos include:
- Types of potential material handling accidents
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (OSHA 1910.132)
- Proper lifting and moving techniques
- Proper ergonomics
- The correct use of powered industrial trucks (forklifts) (OSHA 1910.178)
