The most common cause of €œOccupational Hearing Loss€ is acoustic trauma from loud noise. Approximately 30 million Americans are exposed to High Intensity noise in the workplace on a daily basis. Over 7.5 million Americans will suffer permanent hearing loss because of overexposure, and lack of safety equipment. NIOSH and OSHA  created the standards for €œOccupational Exposure to Noise €œ(29 CFR 1910.95)38 This regulation states employees are only allowed to work a specific amount of time while being exposed to different levels of high intensity acoustic noise. Our "Hearing Conservation and Safety" training products have been specifically created to assist facilities in understanding the calculations, and complying with OSHA's revised Hearing Conservation Standard. Topics covered in these products: How our ears "work", Types of hearing damage/loss, Common causes of hearing damage/loss, Potential effects of hearing damage, Noise avoidance and hearing safety practices, Selection and use of personal protective equipment, and more.

OSHA's Position On Hearing Safety Training

When the statistics are viewed, it becomes apparent that the most common cause of Occupational Hearing Loss is directly related to acoustic trauma generated from loud noise. The statistics also show that nearly 30 million employees, in the U.S., are currently exposed to daily levels of high intensity noise. Because of this, over seven and a half million U.S. workers will end up with permanent hearing loss. The truly sad part is that this will occur due to unnecessary noise overexposure and the lack of (or failure to utilize) proper hearing safety equipment. This situation is currently addressed by OSHA’s occupational noise standard (OSHA 29 CFR 1910.95). The training that we provide, in regards to OSHA’s hearing protection regulations, covers topics related to (but not limited to):

  • The physiology behind the way that the human ear functions
  • The different types of hearing loss/damage
  • The most common causes of hearing loss/damage
  • The end results related to hearing damage
  • Limiting noise exposure and hearing protection practices (OSHA 1910.95 (b)(1))
  • The correct use of hearing Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) (OSHA 1926.101)

Our high-grade training videos, and additional training supplies, have been designed to cover all aspects of OSHA’s mandatory hearing regulations.
