OSHA's regulation 29 CFR 1910.1101 , Occupational Exposure to Asbestos, requires all employees that my come into contact with materials, that might contain asbestos, be given comprehensive training on working safely. Many materials commonly used in buildings for many years (including ceiling tiles, vinyl flooring, as well as, wall and pipe insulation) contain asbestos, this means that the regulation applies to virtually every custodial, janitorial, and maintenance worker in the country. Our Asbestos training programs educate employees about the dangers of working with materials that may contain asbestos and how to safely handle them. Topics covered in these products include: Hazards of asbestos, OSHA's Asbestos Standard, Composition and nature of asbestos, The proper PPE and their usefulness, Types of materials that may contain asbestos, and where they are encountered, How to protect yourself when disturbing a material that may contain asbestos, and Air monitoring and decontamination.

OSHA's Position On Asbestos Awareness Training

Asbestos is the name of a group of minerals that occur in nature. The properties of asbestos include a natural resistance to heat and corrosion damage. Naturally, these properties were considered advantageous when creating surfaces that were to be exposed to extreme temperature conditions (such as a fire and abrasion). Asbestos was also found to be useful in pipe insulation (steam pipes, in particular), floor tiling, building materials and vehicles (brakes, clutches, etc.). Unfortunately, asbestos has subsequently been found to be a serious health hazard and thus has been placed under strict regulation by OSHA and the EPA. As such, there are a number of mandatory OSHA regulations that have been created and employers are obligated to train their appropriate employees in proper asbestos handling and protection procedures (OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1101).

The danger from asbestos is associated with its small fibers that are invisible to the naked eye. These fibers can be breathed into the lungs and cause a build-up of scar tissue (asbestosis), which can eventually lead to diminished lung capacity, certain forms of cancer and death. This is true no matter what form of asbestos is encountered! The topics that are covered by our training videos and training tools include:
