Heat-related illnesses can develop rapidly, especially during physically demanding HAZWOPER operations performed in hot environments or while wearing protective equipment.

Understanding the warning signs of heat stress and knowing how to respond can prevent serious injuries and save lives. This training explains the progression of heat illness, from early conditions such as heat rash and heat cramps to more serious medical emergencies including heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

The course emphasizes the importance of recognizing heat illness before it becomes life-threatening and taking prompt action according to the site's heat response plan.

Heat stroke is a life-threatening medical emergency that requires immediate medical attention.
Heavy sweating, thirst, headache, nausea, dizziness, weakness, and irritability are common signs.
Rhabdomyolysis is severe muscle breakdown caused by intense exertion and heat stress that can damage the kidneys.
Higher temperatures can increase vapor generation and raise the ignition risk of certain hazardous materials.
Workers should stop work immediately, notify a supervisor, and follow the site's heat response plan as soon as symptoms appear.
