Hostile environment harassment involves a pattern of unwanted conduct that creates an intimidating or offensive work atmosphere. This can include unwelcome sexual advances, inappropriate jokes, comments, or touching, and it can be based on gender identity, sexual orientation, or pregnancy.
Sexual harassment can occur between people of any gender or rank and can involve third parties such as vendors or customers. It can happen in person, online, or over the phone, even outside of the physical workplace. Employees are protected by law, and retaliation for reporting harassment is illegal. To prevent harassment, it’s essential to create a respectful, inclusive workplace where inappropriate behavior is not tolerated.
