Immediately wash the area with soap and water. If blood splashes into your eyes, nose, or mouth, flush them with large amounts of water and seek a medical evaluation as soon as possible.

Before approaching, do a quick "scene size-up." Look for downed power lines, traffic, fire, unstable structures, or leaking chemicals. If the scene is not safe, stay back and wait for professional emergency responders.
