Course Overview

Electric pallet jacks are small, but mighty, pieces of machinery used to move pallets around a warehouse, store, or loading dock area. Their compact size and versatility make them a great choice for tight spaces. While they may seem easy to use, there are still guidelines for best safety practices that must be followed during their operation. In this training, you will learn what exactly an electric pallet jack is used for and how to maneuver them in various workplaces safely. Understanding how to use electric pallet jacks will make the workplace a safer place!

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, requires electric pallet jack operators to be at least 18 years old and be certified. Before each use, safety inspections should be done to make sure both the surrounding area and the electric pallet jack itself are free of any hazards. In addition, operators should wear personal protective equipment, or PPE, to minimize the risk of injury. These items include gloves, hard hats, and appropriate footwear.

Before loading and transporting materials the operator should be aware of the electric pallet jack's load capacity. Exceeding the load limit of an electric pallet jack could lead to tip-overs or other accidents. In addition, the load should be balanced on the forks for proper weight distribution. Once it is time to start moving, the load should be lifted at least 1 inch off the ground and a safe speed needs to be maintained at all times. The electric pallet jack should be brought to a complete stop and the drop area should be checked before the forks are lowered. Proper maintenance should be completed on the electric pallet jack to keep it in safe working condition.

This course will help you understand the many uses of electric pallet jacks and how to operate them safely. While they are compact, they can still cause great injury or damage if not used correctly. When it comes to electric pallet jacks safety is key!
