This course provides a foundational understanding of toxicology , the science of poisons, and its relevance to occupational safety and public health. Participants will learn how chemical and physical agents, known as toxicants , enter the body via different routes of exposure, including inhalation, ingestion, and skin absorption. The training covers key concepts like dose-response relationships , factors that influence toxicity (such as concentration and duration of exposure), and the classification of toxic effects as either acute or chronic. Furthermore, the course will introduce methods for evaluating chemical hazards, interpreting Safety Data Sheets (SDS) , understanding Permissible Exposure Limits (PELs) , and applying fundamental principles of industrial hygiene and risk assessment to maintain a safe working environment.
