Course Overview

This essential severe weather awareness course provides employees, managers, and community members with the core knowledge needed to effectively prepare for and respond to the most common, destructive natural hazards: hurricanes, tornadoes, and floods . Participants will learn the fundamentals of meteorology related to these events, how to interpret National Weather Service (NWS) watches and warnings , and critical steps for hazard mitigation to protect life and property. The training focuses on actionable preparedness measures, including identifying safe shelter-in-place locations, developing family and workplace emergency plans , assembling disaster preparedness kits , and safe procedures to follow during the response and initial recovery phases.
