Course Overview

This specialized HAZWOPER module focuses entirely on the critical first step of any hazardous substance incident: rapid information gathering and initial site size-up . Participants will learn systematic methods for recognizing and identifying a hazardous release by observing location cues , container characteristics , placards, and markings. The course teaches responders how to effectively utilize resources like the Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG) and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) to quickly determine the substance's immediate hazards and risks . Crucially, the training covers the procedures for making proper notifications and providing accurate, timely information to the Incident Commander or external emergency responders to ensure appropriate isolation and protective actions are initiated immediately.

This course is available in Spanish and French captions.
