Course Overview

This specialized module within the HAZWOPER curriculum focuses on the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 704 standard, widely known as the "fire diamond." Participants will learn to instantly decode the visual labeling system used on storage tanks and facilities, identifying the severity of Health (Blue), Flammability (Red), and Instability (Yellow) hazards on a scale of 0 to 4. The training also covers special hazard symbols (White), such as water reactivity or oxidizers. By mastering this labeling system, emergency responders and workers can make rapid, life-saving decisions regarding safe approach, containment, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements during a hazardous materials incident.
