Course Overview

You spot a leaking drum with a skull-and-crossbones label. Do you run in to fix it? Absolutely not. This course defines the critical "First Responder Awareness Level" role under OSHA HAZWOPER: your job is to spot the trouble, not become part of it. The training guides you through the immediate actions required when a hazardous substance release is discovered, emphasizing the "Identify and Notify" protocol. Participants will master the use of the Department of Transportation's (DOT) Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG)—the orange lifesaver—to identify placards and establish safe distances. You will learn how to secure the area and call in the cavalry (Technicians and Specialists) without risking your own safety or violating federal regulations.
