Provide detailed shooter descriptions and weapon counts to 911 operators
Follow law enforcement instructions silently with hands raised and visible
It is essential to contact 911 immediately upon hearing gunfire rather than assuming automated alarms have already alerted the authorities. When speaking with dispatchers, provide specific details regarding the shooter's location, physical description, and the types of weapons involved to assist law enforcement in neutralizing the threat. Once officers arrive on the scene, you must stay out of their path and follow all instructions without speaking unless asked a direct question. Your primary responsibility is to reach safety with your hands visible and fingers open to ensure responding professionals can distinguish you from the assailant.

You should not assume an alarm system has alerted authorities because emergency personnel must be called in, and you must make the call yourself if possible.
The risk is that the audible alarm stands a high chance of alerting the assailant to your precise location.
You should provide the location of the shooter, the number of shooters, and the type of weapons the shooter has.
You should still dial 911 and leave the phone on so the operator can listen, but turn the phone volume all the way down.
Law enforcement’s first priority is to stop the shooter, meaning they will not be able to help wounded victims initially.
