Course Overview

Exposure to the gases, dusts, mists, and fumes of hazardous chemicals can cause lung damage, cancer, and other serious conditions of the respiratory and central nervous systems as well as other organs. Your organization has implemented a written respiratory protection program to protect workers from the adverse health effects of airborne contaminants while performing your job.

The purpose of this program is to provide employees with an understanding of the respiratory hazards they may encounter in their work areas and how to use the proper respiratory protection to prevent exposures to such hazards.

Topics include: Medical Evaluations & Fit Testing, Employee Responsibility to Wear Respiratory Protection, Particulate (Filter) Respirators, Chemical Cartridge Respirators, PAPRs, SCBAs, & SARs, and User Seal Checks.

No Worries. Here's Some Helpful Info.

A fit test must be performed at least once a year to ensure a proper seal while you are in the respiratory program.
IDLH stands for "Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health," and these environments require a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) or a supplied-air respirator (SAR).
Break through occurs when the sorbent material in a cartridge becomes saturated, allowing gases and vapors to enter the face mask.
Place your palm over the exhalation valve and breathe out lightly; if you feel pressure and the mask bulges slightly, it is a proper fit.
Any respirator shared among co-workers must be cleaned and disinfected after each individual's use.
