Fire extinguishers are designed to put out small fires before they grow out of control. To use an extinguisher effectively it’s helpful to know what causes things to burn. Once a fire is burning, it produces more heat and grows even larger. Fuel can include combustible solids like paper, wood and some metals, flammable liquids and ignitable gases.
