Workplace Death: Granite Slabs Crush Ohio Worker

OSHA has opened an investigation after a worker at Unique Stone Concepts in Columbus, Ohio was crushed to death.

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, Oct. 3, happened just after 11 a.m.

While 55-year-old Robert Schofield was working when a safety pole holding back granite stone slabs collapsed, trapping him between multiple large slabs. Fellow coworkers used a crane to rescue Schofield, according to news reports.

Despite being rushed to the nearest hospital, Schofield died from his injuries.

The company, which imports and distributes stone slabs for kitchen and bathroom countertops, has not released a statement. Unique Stone Concepts has no prior OSHA citations.
