SKU: TYGUARD-UNIVAR

Training Objectives

Differentiate between rigid wood dunnage and flexible Ty-Gard systems

Execute comprehensive surface preparation to ensure optimal adhesive bonding

Apply the five-foot anchor rule to secure structural bands perfectly

Operate tensioning tools safely to achieve ideal, drum-tight load containment

Enforce legal transit mandates based on total vehicle weight calculations

Course Overview

Picture yourself cracking open the rear doors of an incoming intermodal container, only to be hit by a chaotic avalanche of crushed chemical barrels, punctured intermediate bulk containers, or jackknifed pallets. In the logistics and maritime transport world, load shifts are an expensive, dangerous nightmare that disrupts shifts, drives devastating freight claims, and severely threatens terminal safety. Massive longitudinal forces during railcar coupling or rough ocean transits mean that traditional, rigid wood bracing and dunnage methods simply split or snap under pressure.

This course delivers a complete, hands-on masterclass in implementing the Walnut Industries Ty-Gard Cargo Restraint System—specifically Ty-Gard 2000 and the double-strength Ty-Gard DS. You will move past outdated, back-breaking bracing techniques to master an engineering blueprint built on flexible, space-age, high-resistance multi-fiber bands. This course deep-dives into the operational mechanics of pressure-sensitive acrylic adhesives, showing how these materials weld themselves cleanly to corrugated steel walls without leaving gummy residue upon removal.

We strip away guesswork from the installation line by enforcing a precise, step-by-step protocol. You will master critical surface preparation, execute the foundational five-foot anchor rule, manipulate the specialized manual tensioners in the Ty-Tool Kit, and apply the structural Ty-Patch to lock down an immovable, drum-tight barrier. Furthermore, we link warehouse actions directly to legal transport frameworks, covering strict mandates set by the Association of American Railroads (AAR), Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), and the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code. You will learn the exact math formula required to split heavy mass safely—applying 1 strip for every 8,800 pounds of cargo—to prevent catastrophic transit failures.

This training is custom-built for logistics supervisors, warehouse dock crews, supply chain managers, intermodal freight handlers, and safety compliance officers dedicated to maintaining zero damage, mitigating liability, and ensuring absolute regulatory compliance across global distribution networks.

No Worries. Here's Some Helpful Info.

Yes. The system is fully tested and approved by the Association of American Railroads (AAR) and the Bureau of Explosives for the securement of hazardous materials and general freight. It satisfies the performance-based transit safety requirements enforced across rail, highway, and ocean modes.
Ty-Gard 2000 is the industry-standard 16-inch-wide band designed for standard cargo configurations like palletized items, paper rolls, and tote bins. Ty-Gard DS is a double-strength, wider variant engineered specifically to handle high-density, severe loads such as heavy chemical drums or massive metal coils.
The 5-foot adhesion zone along the corrugated side walls provides the minimum surface area required for the pressure-sensitive acrylic adhesive to withstand violent transit forces. Shortcutting this length prevents the system from achieving its engineered holding capacity, causing the band to fail under heavy loads.
Unlike traditional wood dunnage that requires nailing or welding into the trailer structure, Ty-Gard utilizes an aggressive acrylic adhesive that leaves zero sticky or gummy residue. When the shipment arrives, the material peels off cleanly, eliminating scrubbing, container wall degradation, and carrier damage fees.
The standard rule of thumb for safe weight distribution is applying 1 containment band for every 8,800 pounds (approx. 4,000 kg) of cargo mass. For heavy freight approaching maximum weight limits, multiple bands must be stacked vertically or the load must be split into sections to share the stress.
