Course Overview

Manual pallet jacks are the perfect choice for moving loads around small spaces like warehouses, distribution centers, and retail shops. While they are small and relatively easy to use, they still require safety precautions and operating guidelines. In this training, you will learn what a manual pallet jack can be used for and how to operate it safely. Don’t judge manual pallet jacks by their size; they are small but mighty!

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, doesn’t require manual pallet jack operators to be specifically certified before use. However, they do require on-the-job training that includes how to push and pull the jack, proper storage, and safety precautions to prevent injury. It’s recommended that operators wear personal protective equipment like gloves, safety footwear, and eye protection. Being mindful of the amount of weight on the jack and the path used to move the load also helps limit the risk of back strain, foot strain, or hand crushes.

Manual pallet jacks should be inspected before use for any damage or wear and tear that could impede its function. Things like the rubber wheels, hydraulic system, and forks need to be checked to make sure they are in good, working order. Operating a damaged manual pallet jack can lead to disaster!

This course will help you understand the uses of manual pallet jacks and how to operate them safely. Even though they don’t look like it, manual pallet jacks can cause damage and injuries when not used properly. It’s important to follow all guidelines to make sure the manual pallet jack transports its load from here to there without incident!

Check the floor for imperfections, never exceed the jack’s load capacity, never stand or ride on a manual pallet jack, and stick to designated areas to avoid collisions or pinch-point hazards.
OSHA recommends limiting the force needed to lift a load to 50 pounds or less.
