Grounded in the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations, this training provides the legal and practical framework for "cradle-to-grave" waste management. You will move beyond basic awareness to master the technical requirements of 40 CFR Part 262, including the strict 90-day on-site accumulation limit. We dive deep into the daily essentials: ensuring containers are compatible with their contents, mastering the nuances of "closed container" rules, and applying precise labeling that communicates flammability, corrosivity, or toxicity at a glance.

A major focus of this training is the management of Satellite Accumulation Areas (SAAs) versus Central Accumulation Areas (CAAs). You will learn how to maintain control at the point of generation while respecting the 55-gallon limit for hazardous waste and the 1-quart limit for acutely hazardous materials. We also prepare you for the "worst-case scenario" by outlining the components of a robust Contingency Plan, from appointing an Emergency Coordinator to coordinating with local fire departments and hospitals.

The journey concludes with the final hand-off: the Hazardous Waste Manifest. You will learn to track your waste from the moment it leaves your dock until it reaches a permitted Treatment, Storage, and Disposal Facility (TSDF), ensuring your facility remains compliant and your environmental footprint is minimized. This training is essential for environmental health and safety (EHS) personnel, facility managers, and any waste handlers who serve as the first line of defense in hazardous waste compliance.

A facility is an LQG if it generates 1,000 kilograms (approx. 2,200 lbs) or more of hazardous waste, or more than 1 kilogram of acutely hazardous waste, in any single calendar month.

LQGs can accumulate hazardous waste in a Central Accumulation Area for up to 90 days without a permit.

Containers must be marked with the words “Hazardous Waste” and an indication of the hazards (e.g., "Flammable" or "Toxic"). Once moved to a CAA, they must also include the accumulation start date.

Once the 55-gallon limit (or 1 quart of acutely hazardous waste) is reached, the generator has three days to date the container and move it to the Central Accumulation Area.

Personnel must complete initial training within six months of hire or being assigned to waste duties and must participate in an annual review thereafter.
