Course Overview

Workplace injuries happen. Most happen fast. How you respond – and how soon after the incident – can determine a victim’s chances for recovery, or even save their life. In this course, we'll take a deep dive into treatment methods for minor and major injuries and illnesses and also related physical states that are a part of this training.

What do you do when someone experiences burns, abrasions, or blisters? Do you know what to do (and what not to do)? Musculoskeletal (MSK) injuries are another common occurrence that often requires immediate attention. Trauma to the eyes, mouth, and head in general can be both devastating and life-threatening, so it's important to know how to assess a victim's condition and how to act in those situations.

This course will also cover bites and stings, as well as how to respond in the case of breathing problems and choking. How about cardiac events? Do you know how to respond in the event someone is being or has been electrocuted? Extremes of temperature and other conditions can also lead to shock or stroke - the effects aren't just skin-deep. Knowing what to do in an emergency situation could make the difference between simply an injury and disability or even death. Finally, the course will explain the basic steps you'll need to take if a victim is or becomes unconscious, and of course, we'll outline some common risks that you (as a responder on the scene) face when you are administering first aid.

No single training can prepare you for every situation or all categories where first-aid might prove of benefit. The goals of first aid are to preserve life, prevent further injury or worsened illness, alleviate suffering, and promote recovery. Preparation starts with familiarity with first-aid supplies and equipment locations along with proper application and response. That's why this course is for you!
