Washington – Passenger railroads will need to adopt additional proactive safety measures to prevent incidents, injuries and fatalities, according to a final rule from the Federal Railroad Administration.
Under the System Safety Program, railroads must develop a defined, quantifiable safety culture. Other requirements include identifying possible safety hazards and taking steps to mitigate them while demonstrating how to stay in compliance with FRA regulations.
“This new rule will help passenger railroads achieve the next generation of rail safety,” FRA Administrator Sarah Feinberg in a July 29 press release.
