One of the most important part of pre-operation set up happens before the crane is even assembled or on site. Before you set up, you must take into consideration the intended site. Tour the site with the lift director or site supervisor and plan appropriately by answering the following questions; Is access to the site adequately prepared? Does the crane have to between building or maneuver around equipment to reach the site? Is there room to erect or extend the boom? Will the operating location far enough away from any areas susceptible to collapse? Keep in mind that the cranes must be located on solid stable ground. One of the most important safety system is the load chart. Load charts are matched to individual cranes based on manufacturer’s test. OSHA requires, that a clearly printed load chart be posted in the cab, if you cannot see or read the load chart or the load chart does not matched the crane do not use it, report this to your company safety officer immediately.
