The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) has called for a continued focus on workplace safety and health after an annual rise in work-related deaths in Britai, where 144 people were killed while at work in 2015-16, up from 142 during the year before.
“Our shared objective is a world where work is safe and healthy for every working person, every day,” IOSH President Dr. Karen McDonnell said. “Britain is renowned the world over for its health and safety systems. The release of these figures, however, is a timely reminder of the need to continue to improve working conditions, both in Britain and across the world.”
A total of 43 workers died in construction, while 27 died in agriculture. Twenty-seven people also died in manufacturing, while six died in the waste and recycling sector.
