Dose and Duration of Hazardous Material Exposure
This 2 minutes safety training video covers: What is dose exposure, what is duration of exposure, what is short and long term exposure, what are the acute and chronic health effects of exposure to some hazardous materials, what is Threshold Limit Value (TLV) or Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL), where can we find information about TLV and PEL.
Potential exposure to anesthetic gases in operating, recovery and emergency rooms as well as out-patient clinic also may put you at risk. If proper precautions are not taken leaks may occur, this exposure may cause drowsiness, depression, headaches, nausea, fatigue and problem with judgment and coordination. Possible effects from long term exposure to anesthetic gases include liver & kidney disease, cancer, miscarriages and birth defects, so always follow proper safety precautions. Information on the concentration of the chemical which you can be safely exposed this is called the permissible exposure limit ((PEL) or the threshold limit value (TLV).
