About Back Safety in Healthcare

Back Safety in Healthcare

Back Pain affects 80% of all Americans at some time in their lives. While pain or discomfort maybe felt anywhere in your back, the lower back is the area most affected. Unfortunately, back pain is generally the result of multiple stressors on the body from improperly standing, sitting or lifting for a long time, not one single incident. Keeping your employee€™s backs healthy is an important part of keeping employees productive. Ergonomic Safety training teaches employees the safest most effective ways to lift, move, bend, and sit while working. There isn€™t any industry out there that employees are not using their backs, its best practice to keep them protected.

OSHA's Position On Back Safety in Healthcare Training

When it comes to back pain, it’s more than likely that you will be amongst the 80% of Americans who experiences that pain and discomfort that can be located anywhere in the back area, particularly in the lower back. Fortunately, since back pain is commonly associated with poor ergonomics, over an extended period of time, the problem can be addressed through ergonomic safety training. Therefore, OSHA has made it a point to use the General Duty Clause to cite employers for ergonomic hazards (OSHA Act of 1970, Section 5(a)(1)). The General Duty clause stipulates that each employee has the right to be provided a workplace that is free from known hazards that can currently (or in the future) result in injury of death. The topics covered by our training videos include:

In addition to back ergonomics training videos, we also offer other OSHA-compliant training tools (some of which can come bundled with our videos) that include; Posters, Training Manuals, Customizable PowerPoint© Presentations, Leader’s Guides and more. Since there is no industry where employees aren’t using their backs, it’s important to have the proper training materials to make the case for creating an OSHA-required (mandatory OSHA General Duty regulations) safe work environment, as far as ergonomics are concerned.
