There is a potential for disaster occurring at work, knowing how prepared the company and your fellow employees are can be a life saver. Its better to have a plan of action than none at all. Danger and disaster can come in many forms; fire, natural disasters, loss of power, chemical spills or gas leaks, even terrorist attacks. Response to disaster is crucial to not just physical life, but the life of the company too.

In reality, most organizations don’t have developed plans for safety and many have never practiced any safety procedure exercises with the workforce. With disaster preparedness training having a plan can assure everyone in the organization is prepared. OSHA requires businesses with ten or more employees have a written and designated plan. If less than ten employees, spoken communication is acceptable, though written plans are the best way to prepare. Even with this requirement many organizations are not prepared.

This workplace safety infographic shows many facts to help recognize possible disasters and what can be done to create a plan to be better prepared.

• Barely half of employers have a disaster plan and have communicated it with their employees. • Just under half of employers have no plan or no idea if there is a disaster plan for their workplace. • Of the companies who are prepared for disasters, they also have steps taken for recovery offsite. • Being prepared involves having a prepared kit, discussion and posted action procedure plan along with scheduled informative discussions since dangers and threats can change, along with building layouts over time.

Employers who show they are committed to a plan of action and preparedness and also use workplace safety videos so the dangers of disaster can be handled in an orderly and proper manner will be ahead of the curve.
