cGMP in the USA Training by CDER FDA

Pro's

  • This International Atomic Energy Pharmaceutical GMP (FDA GMP Training Program) presentation provides a great deal of cGMP, in the United States, over the course of 55 slides.
  • The module makes some use of the instructor notes at the bottom for additional clarification (i.e. – Slides #41 - #44).
  • The training revolves around the FD&C Act 501 (a)(2)(b) and the Code of Federal Regulations mandates (21 CFR 211).
  • This module presents an extensive overview of cGMP requirements (Slides #22 - #37).
  • Issues that can become problematic are given, along with potential solutions.
  • Examples of “Wrongful Acts” are also provided.
  • Methods of restoring the FDA’s confidence, after having presented faulty data, are discussed.
  • Items that have been covered are listed at the presentation’s end. This can be of great assistance when it comes to retaining the training information.

Con's

  • The training presentation format is very simplistic and doesn’t make use of pictures or other devices that would keep the training from becoming tedious. This can be an issue when it comes to retaining the material.
  • The reference, at the end of the module, would probably need to be changed.

  • The format is easy to read and is cognizant of not placing too much material on any one slide.
  • The material references the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
  • The training begins with FDA mandated Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures.
  • The hygienic production and distribution of food is covered, which includes; handling, storage, facility design, facility cleanliness, personnel hygiene and transportation.
  • The different training sections are divided for easier retention and training schedule(s) (i.e. – Slides #17 and #26).
  • There is also a section on the proper training of personnel.

Con's

  • While the format is easy to read, there are no pictures/photos to break up the monotony.
  • No interactive questioning is included.
  • Also missing are references and a summary.

GMP & Quality Assurance Training by Fakultas Farmasi Universitas Andalas

Pro's

  • The format of this Fakultas Farmasi Pharmaceutical GMP presentation is interesting and employs high-quality photos to help with the attention level of the module viewers.
  • There is a good introduction at the beginning of this module that sets the stage for the subsequent training.
  • The inter-relationship between GMP, Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) is explored.
  • The principles of Quality Management, Quality Control and Quality Assurance are outlined.
  • The training is divided into four distinct parts that consist of; an Introduction, Quality Management, Personnel and Premises. This allows for the training to be divided over more than one class with a consistent theme for each class.
  • Three key personnel members are defined. These are; the Production Head, The Head of QC and the Head of QM (QA).

Con's

  • There are no photos or illustrations prior to line #20.
  • Some of the slides are filled with too much information (i.e. – Slides #35 and #40).
  • References for further material and/or questions are not given. There is also a lack of a concluding summary.

GMP Compliance Training by Sidley Austin Brown & Wood, LLP

Pro's

  • The Health Care Conference Administrators Pharmaceutical cGMP training is presented in a format that won’t be difficult to read, due to the colors that are used.
  • The information is based on the Code of Federal Regulations mandates (21 CFR 211).
  • Employee training requirements are listed in detail, over 3 slides.
  • GMP regulations are outlined at the beginning of the presentation along with a listing of violations that carry severe consequences.
  • Current trends that address GMP approaches are also listed.
  • The elements of GMP are listed and explained, starting with the basics (Slide #5).
  • Investigating deviations from the regulations, along with corrective actions, is discussed.

Con's

  • The only picture, or illustration, provided consists of one photo (Slide #15). However, the lack of pictures and illustrations is pretty standard for GMP presentations.
  • There are slides that are far too “wordy” (i.e. – Slide #19) and need to either be spread out over additional slides or provided as handouts.
  • The presentation requires a summary that reviews the training which was just given.

Pro's

  • This training module (originally presented to the New England Chapter Society of Cosmetic Chemists) focuses on GMP as it pertains to the Cosmetic Industry.
  • The Cosmetic Industry GMP training presentation begins with a list of goals that the program will achieve.
  • A definition and reasons for the existence of GMPs are given.
  • The applicable section of the FD&C regulation is provided.
  • A comparison of GMP regulations governing the U.S., Europe and ASEAN is given in the form of a chart. There is also a comparison of GMPs from the US FDA, WHO and EU.
  • The definition of cGMP (as opposed to GMP) is given.
  • The training stresses that GMPs apply to cosmetics as well as drugs. Along with this the FDA definitions of over-the-counter (OTC) drugs vs. cosmetics are also provided.
  • Restricted cosmetic ingredients are listed on Slide #28.
  • Various additional FDA positions on cosmetic GMP (including definitions) are included.
  • A summary that stresses the “self-regulatory” aspects of the cosmetic industry is given at the end of the module.

Con's

  • The presentation format appears as if it wasn’t professionally designed and is basically just text on white pages with a few illustrations added.
  • The chart used to compare GMP regulations, in different parts of the world (Slide #10), cannot be effectively read with that small- sized font. There are also other slides that contain too much info for a single slide.
