Hearing Conservation Training For Employees hearing conservation trainingOccupational noise hazards are nothing new, since the dawn of the Industrial Revolution employees have suffered from hearing loss, due to high intensity noises produced by machinery, vehicles, tools, and more. Occupational Hearing loss is extremely common; according to the CDC, approximately 30 million workers, throughout the US, are exposed to hazardous noise levels on the job every day. Depending on the acoustic level and duration of exposure to the noise, employees could suffer from temporary to permanent hearing loss. Temporary hearing loss symptoms include, ringing of the ears (Tinnitus) and/or the individuals ears may feel plugged up. These conditions could last anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. Repeated expose to any highly intense noise can cause permanent acoustic trauma, in other words incurable hearing loss. Unless an individual’s eardrums burst for a sudden loud noise, hearing loss is normally a gradual progression and unnoticeable to the individual until it is too late. Industries such as airlines, railroad, manufacturing, and construction are the most prone industries for Occupational hearing loss, but it’s not limited to those fields. Any job where the acoustic noise is above 90dB can cause hearing trauma to employees. A 90 dB noise level is equivalent to the noise produced by a large truck, 5 yards away from an individual. A jackhammer about 3 yards away produces a noise level of 120dBs and a jet engine a hundred feet away produces around 130dBs.  To prevent hearing loss and ensure safety of the employees working with the tools and in the surrounding area, organizations need to make hearing loss prevention plans and provide training to the employees.

Hearing loss is irreversible but it is 100% preventable

To protect employees from the harmful effects of noise exposure, organizations have to take necessary safety precautions at workplace. Hearing Conservation Program has been created specifically to provide employees with knowledge and information about noise hazards and it also helps facilities in fulfilling the OSHA Occupational Noise Exposure and Hearing Protection Standard (29 CFR,1910.95) training requirements. This program covers all major areas needed to comply with OSHA Hearing Conservation Standard. The training program kit comes with a Hearing Safety DVD, a compliance manual, 5 motivational posters, and 30 employee booklets. The Hearing Safety Video comes with a comprehensive leader’s guide, reproducible scheduling & attendance form, employee quiz, training certificate and training log, etc. The Hearing Safety Videos are available in VHS or DVD format.
